Kenyatte Nelson: Style in Cincinnati

Over the weekend, we had the distinct pleasure of photographing Kenyatte Nelson, Esquire Magazine's 2008 Best Dressed Real Man in America, style aficionado, and author of Tweed & Velvet, a men's style blog.  The video below contains a small sample of the incredible images we captured with him in the Fountain Square area of Cincinnati, Ohio.  Enjoy!

North Halsted, Chicago in Abstract

While in Chicago this week, we had some extra time so we walked around the North Halsted area and took some abstract photographs of the neighborhood.  Here are a few of our favorites.  Enjoy, and have a great weekend!

Moss grows in a brick driveway.

One of Chicago's many interesting alleys.

The alley entrance.

One of the many wonderful details of this neighborhood -- an inclusive community.

Elegant architectural details can be found everywhere...

Patterns are everywhere too...

One of the many flower boxes in the neighborhood.

You'd never know you were in a city...

The Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Abstract

We just went on a very quick trip to Chicago -- stayed only one night in the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, IL.  It was a beautiful, well designed hotel that just received a $64 Million face lift!  I took the opportunity of visiting this luxurious hotel to take a few abstract photographs of the excellent decor.

Abstracts by Jordana Wright Photography

It was a beautiful day yesterday -- the perfect weather for capturing the bold colors in springtime landscapes.  We went out for a country cruise with the intention of photographing some of rural Illinois' springtime splendor, and returned home nearly an hour later with a nearly empty memory card.  Sometimes perfect weather and good intentions isn't enough to find inspiration...  Frustrated with the lack of new photographs for the day, I wandered around my house (and later, my in-laws' property) with my 50mm lens and took some abstract photos...  Here's what we got:

"1969" -- pattern and light through our 40+ year old curtains.

"Aluminum" -- Late afternoon light on the aluminum sided barn.

"Bolt" -- Fencepost and bolt illuminated by the golden light of late afternoon.

"Electric" -- Backlit scarf

"Lines of Light" -- wood molding and blinds in an upstairs room

"Lock" -- a doorknob and it's shadow

"New Holland Blue" -- a brightly painted gate

"Plush" -- a surprisingly uncomfortable chair

"Sizzle" -- post-dinner... the coals are almost out

Sometimes all it takes to see the things around you in a whole new way is a little bit of creative frustration and an open mind!

Thanks for stopping by... there are a lot more abstract images from yesterday available on our Archive... Go take a look!

Old Favorites by Jordana Wright Photography

One of my favorite things about digital photography is the ability to take and save loads of images.  Sometimes it's nice to come home from a shoot, choose a few favorites and walk away from the rest of the photos for a while.  Then a few days, months, or years later, you can comb back through various folders looking for some new favorites that maybe didn't catch your eye the first time around.  If we still worked predominantly in film, this would be a lot harder to do!  Here are a couple of old photos that have become some new favorites of mine.  Click any of the photos to see them in our Image Archive!

An old Cape Cod door knocker.

Wood End Light, in Cape Cod

A toy car on a friend's mantel.

A lantern and plant in a friend's window.

All of these shots were taken in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  Its amazing how sometimes you need a little distance to gain new perspective on an old photo!  What do you think?  Do you ever need to walk away from something for a while to be able to look at it in a whole new way?

Thanks for visiting!  Check out more of our stuff on our website and image archive!
