Proposal Photoshoot!

On Friday I had the very rare opportunity of witnessing and photographing a proposal!  

Steve recruited me last month to help surprise his girlfriend, Kathryn, with a ring in one of my favorite spots in Paris, IL -- Schwartz Park.  I pretended to be photographing flowers when they arrived so Kathryn wouldn't get suspicious :-)  She thought they were just at the park to give her little one an opportunity to run around in the summer sun, but before long, Steve was down on one knee and she was BEAMING!  I'm so lucky to have been a part of their incredible moment together.  Here are a few photos from the proposal --

The return of color to the midwest

Greens, purples, yellows, oranges... spring is here in all of its colorful glory.  It's been a mild winter, but I couldn't be happier to see spring arrive.  All of the fields have a lush carpet of green, the flower beds are sprouting, and the trees are waking up.  Here's a lovely wide angle of the field behind our house.

Just before sunset last night, I combined my new favorite toy (the Canon 250d screw-on close up lens) with my old favorite lens (the Canon 50mm 1.8) to get some fabulous shallow DOF for the first arrivals of spring.  I'm so glad to be breathing in that fragrant 80* air.

Sneak Preview: Senior Portraits with Haley Johnson

Yesterday we had a fabulous Senior Portrait Session with Haley!  She's super sweet, energetic, and very enthusiastic.  During her 3 hour session we explored her family's beautiful property, taking advantage of ponds, woods, and open fields.  Later, we shifted gears and took the shoot to the Paris, IL square, where we utilized the amazing textures, colors, and backdrops that the town has to offer.  We had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed getting to know Haley.  Take a look at the Sneak Preview we put together of her session...

Summer in the Mid

I once read an article in a photography magazine that boldly claimed there is nothing to photograph (as far as landscapes) in the Midwest.  I wholeheartedly disagree.  Here are a few photos from the sunset last night just outside Paris, IL...  
I'm lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
