Paris Art Center Summer Photography Classes

Last week was the final session of Summer Photography Classes at the Paris Art Center.  Jordana Wright Photography had a fantastic time teaching all of the students about photography!  Over the two week-long sessions we explored Paris, Illinois on foot and shot some excellent photographs with composition, abstraction, shadow and light, portraiture, journalism, and exploring a new perspective as our focus.  We had students from Paris, IL; Chrisman, IL; Charleston, IL; Kansas, IL; and New Castle, IN.  Each student brought home a professionally printed 8x10 of their favorite photo from the class.  Their progress has been very impressive!

Here is a collection of their excellent photographs... Enjoy!

Thanks again to Alyx Henigman, Claire Wills, Elizabeth Taylor, Karsyn Worthington, Charlee Walker, Nate Johnson, Chelsea Witmer, Bryce Kohlmeyer, and Meredith Penczek!

A Trip To The Library

This week Jordana Wright Photography has been teaching two sections of Intermediate Photography at the Paris Art Center.  Once again, the students are really impressing me with their constant improvement and talent.  This week we've been working on abstractions, landscapes, looking at the world from a new perspective, understanding light, and portraiture.  This week we've also had record heat, so we headed to the Paris Public Library to see what we could find in the comfort of the AC.  It was a really great experience for everyone.  It was the perfect opportunity to reexamine things you normally see everyday and take for granted.  At the end of the week I'm going to be posting a collection of the students' photographs from this summer's Basic & Intermediate Photography Classes, but for now, here are a few of my favorites that I took at the Library in Paris.  Click on any image to see it in our Archives.  Enjoy!

Thanks for visiting!  Check back later in the week for photographs by the students!

White River State Park, Indianapolis

Recently we have made several trips over to Indianapolis (only about 1.5 hours from our house in Paris, IL) to check out the Downtown area and White River State Park.  Indy is a really amazing city with a great vibe.  While in town we also visited The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.  They have a very extensive and impressive collection and its definitely worth a visit!

After all of the Photo Walks we've been doing in Paris, Illinois with the Photography Class at the Paris Art Center, Indianapolis seemed like an obvious location to explore in images.  The city is very pedestrian friendly, and has a definite Midwestern pace -- perfect for the stops and starts of Jordana Wright Photography.  We saw and captured many interesting textures, patterns, art installations, and architecture -- we were even in the perfect place at the perfect time to witness some terrifyingly brave window washers (pictures later in the week) on one of the buildings downtown.

Here are a few of our favorite Indianapolis images... click any of the images to see them in our Archive.  Enjoy!

Thanks for visiting and check back soon for more images from our visits to Indianapolis!

Kelsey & Harrison's Wedding Sneak Preview

On June 26th we were very fortunate to photograph the beautiful wedding of Kelsey and Harrison in Sullivan, Illinois.  They gathered at the Country Club with their family and friends and enjoyed a lovely outdoor ceremony.  We had a fantastic time capturing the special moments between the Bride & Groom, and the joy of the event.  Congratulations again to Kelsey & Harrison!

Photo Walks in Paris, Illinois

Last week I had the opportunity to work with some budding photographers from Paris, Illinois and surrounding towns.  I taught a Basic Photography Class through the Paris Art Center as part of their Summer Art Classes.  Each day of class, we focused on the basic principles of photography, exploring downtown Paris for textures, patterns, and interesting composition.  Here are a few of my favorite images I took while working with the students.  Click any image to view it in our Archives.

Later in the week I will be posting some of the excellent photographs taken by the students.  My Intermediate Photography Class at the Paris Art Center will be held from July 13th through the 17th.  We still have a few openings!  Contact the Paris Art Center at (217)466-8130 for more information!  Thanks for visiting!

Wild Weather in the Mid

This is my first June in the Midwest and it's taking some getting used to!  Wild storms have been popping-up every night this week -- seemingly out of nowhere -- with 35 mph winds, 50 mph gusts, torrential rain, eerie clouds, and odd post-storm lighting conditions.  Fortunately, wild weather is perfect for high impact photography.  Last night the storm cleared early enough for me to capture some of the bizarrely beautiful post-storm views.  Here are a few of my favorites:
